Stelvio Park, Italy

The National Park Stelvio covers an area of 332 acres in the heart of the Central Alps. It offers a wide range of sports activities year-round.

Some summer activities include hiking, golf, mountain biking, spa/wellness hotels, and various local excursions. The protected (since 1934) National area borders the Swiss National Park of Engadina to the North, Parco Regionale dell’Adamello in Lombardy, Italy in the south, and it is directly linked to the near Parco Naturale Adamello-Brenta in Trentino, Italy.

It is possible to admire glaciers, mountain summer trails, wide woodlands, and mountain chalets all within the same day. At higher altitudes enjoy wildlife like the wild goat, foxes, hares, buzzards, the sparrow hawk, and golden eagles among the striking rock peaks.

Bormio’s thermal waters are renowned for their curative powers since ancient times. The town is centered on the historic Piazza Cavour and Via Roma. This was the main trading area for Europeans in route from Venice to Switzerland. Traditions shared are abundant with handmade sculptures of wood, flowers, and other natural materials with religious significance.

Visit the Sant’Ignazio and San Vitale churches are located in the pedestrian zone. Fashion boutiques and charming shops offer a wide variety of goods and be sure to enjoy the local deli’s and bakeries.

Day 1 – Wander through the Stelvio National Park on the southern side of the Reit. This is one of the most charming areas of the Western Dolomites. The hotel Bagni di Bormio Spa Resort is surrounded by country fields and covered in mountain sunlight for long hours each day.

Day 2 – Enjoy morning views of Bormio towards the south or a sunset view of Piazzi Peak’s glacier, the high cliffs of the Stelvio gorge. Enjoy walks on the paths connecting to Bagni Nuovi and Bagni Vecchi.

Day 3 – Hike to Bagni di Bormio’s Park, through flowing meadows and mugo pines. Visit the Lago delle Scale fishing reserve and the Alpine Lake with rainbow and brown trout, perch, Alpine, and Arctic char. Fishing is possible from June to October each year.

Day 4 – Enjoy the luxuries of the Bagni di Bormio Spa Resort Hot Springs after a morning hike to the upper Valtellina with amazing mountain peak views.

Day 5 – Hike with a local guide or GPS system throughout the park.
