Come experience some of StarkTours favorite towns and villages of the Black Forest region. With lush green fields scattered with milking cows, wild deer, birds, and rabbits. Tall trees line the roadways and winding paths. The higher you climb in the mountains the thicker the forest; letting you know that you are in the “Black Forest”.

The Black Forest region of Germany has some of the most spectacular hiking and biking trails in Europe. StarkTours will share some of our favorite lakes, mountains, fields, monuments, churches, shops, and trails with you. Choose your route and head out on the well-marked trails, paths, and local streets.

Day 1: Transfer to Freiburg – Fly into Frankfurt, Zurich, or Stuttgart and transfer by rail to Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. The old tower gates welcome you as you enter the main old town square. The shopping, market, sights, and museums are some of the best.
Day 2: Freiburg – Take a self-guided city tour followed by sightseeing or shopping until the afternoon. Grab a hot “Weischen mut Brot” Weiner with bread at the open market at the Musterplatz. In the late afternoon enjoy the hike to the tower.

Day 3: Freiburg to Breitnau, Hinterzarten, or Titisee – Transfer to your hotel in Breitnau or one of our other favorite areas. Enjoy many different hikes or cycling trails around the local areas. I suggest you ride into Hintzergarten and enjoy a day by the river trail. Start back early as the return trip is mostly uphill if you’re staying in Breitnau.
Day 4: Lake Titisee – Well-marked paths take you all around Lake Titisee. Enjoy a swim at the campground halfway or at the local swimming pool as you return to town. If you are shopping for a traditional “Chokco clock” this is the place. Many shops will deduct the cost of the tax if you have it shipped directly to the U.S.
Day 5: Feldberg – Now you are ready for a day of mountain biking or hiking. The Feldberg is known for skiing in the winter but to locals, it is known as a summer place to experience the outdoors, fresh air, wildflowers, local farms, and wonderful mountain paths and lakes. I remember the first time I biked to the Feldberg, I was determined to make it to the top, and I started out very early. By lunchtime I was at the Feldsee with time to swim, relax in the sun and have lunch at the local hut. The goulash is the best!
Day 6: Breitnau loop – Head North with the goal of sightseeing in the countryside. Today’s loop will bring you to some of my favorite trails. Stop for lunch at a local pension in the hills and hike out to the end of the road. The world cuts off from below you and you can see for miles.
Day 7: Todtnau – The option is yours to take a short bus ride to the Schlulong ride to Todtnau or St. Martin.
